JOB SUMMARY

This position is responsible for performing the necessary accounting/posting and record maintenance duties for patient and third party payments received by the Billing office.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/DUTIES

  • Batches and posts all payments received electronically within 24 hours of Electronic Fund Transfer (assignment may be primary or assisting).
  • Posts all manual deposits within 24 hours of receipt (assignment may be primary or assisting).
  • Ensures that all MCOs and Contract Payers fee schedules are loaded into the system for accurate posting.
  • Provides feedback to Billing Supervisor for any contracted payers whose payments do not reconcile to loaded fee schedules.
  • Provides support to management and operational staff.
  • May be asked to assist with monthly reconciliation of cash receipts to general ledger entries.
  • Investigates all payment vouchers where charges were partially paid or paid inappropriately.
  • Processes Collection Agency status reports.
  • Assists with refund processing or act as back up to primary assignee.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Cross-trains in other function areas.

QUALIFICATIONS
Experience:

  • Ambulance/Medical billing certification or diploma preferred.
  • Minimum of 2-years medical billing experience with a high volume practice or clinic, ambulance experience preferred.

Education:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • Combination of education and experience considered.

Skills:

  • Thorough knowledge of ambulance transport documentation.
  • Extensive knowledge of ICD-9 and Condition Codes.
  • Ability to collect for healthcare claims from MCR/MCD, commercial insurance, contracted facilities, and individuals.
  • Understands Medicare and Medicaid regulations and guidelines.
  • Familiarity with Medicare, Medicaid, Coding, Private Pay, and insurance preferred.
  • Familiarity with medical terminology.
  • Ability to interpret EOB (Explanation of Benefits)
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite
