Eclipse Trading is one of Asia’s leading proprietary derivatives trading firms. Founded in 2007, we have over a 100 staff across three office locations – Hong Kong (our HQ), Sydney, and Shanghai. Our trading expertise and strategies are deployed across several Asian markets and although we mainly specialise in equity derivatives, we also trade index derivatives, ETFs, commodity derivatives, and crypto currency products.

Technology is paramount to our business with the Frameworks team responsible for core Java components of Eclipse’s derivatives trading system, as well as the capture, analysis and distribution of market and trading system data. Technology developed by the Frameworks team is at the heart of an exciting program of greenfield projects and renovations to existing systems, re-architecting our trading stack around a stream processing paradigm, using Java 11, Kafka and Kafka Streams. The team empowers users by providing them with easy access to clean, well defined data in a simple, language independent way, and a framework to build their own automation logic.

We are looking for a Senior Java Engineer to join our Sydney office in a hands-on role combined with mentoring and project management.

Key Duties

Build the next generation of our trading system through a combination of green-field development and refactoring of existing code bases with modern technologies (Java 11, Kafka, Kafka Streams)
Partner closely with traders, quants and other development teams to improve our trading software
Drive key projects from inception to analysis, design, implementation and delivery
Provide feedback through design and code reviews and technical mentorship
Hire, train, and manage graduate developers
Provide training and Tier 3 support as needed

What you offer

Minimum of 8 years of development experience in Java
Ability to design, extend and maintain well-factored, efficient, production quality Java applications and libraries
Focus on automated testing, code reviews and software engineering best practices
Prior financial experience working with front office trading systems is desirable (preference for derivatives)
Experience in mentoring and/or managing graduates or experienced developers desirable
University degree in Computer Science or related field
Excellent communication skills
Excellent command of spoken and written English
