Improving standards and conditions in the private rented sector – you’ll take the lead

One of the most densely populated and diverse  areas of the capital, Kensington and Chelsea has some 160,000 residents. From Notting Hill to Ladbroke Grove, Knightsbridge to Earl’s Court, the private rented sector (PRS) is an important element of our housing provision.

We are committed to protecting the health, safety and welfare of residents when they are affected by poor housing conditions and deficient property management, whilst promoting professionalism and resilience in the sector.

As a member of the team, you will be part of an uniquely supportive and forward thinking working environment.

The Role:

This is an opportunity to utilise your technical expertise across the borough’s highly varied housing profile, working closely with landlords, registered providers, owners, agents and tenants to apply transparent and consistent regulation within the PRS market.

Leading and developing a team of six, you’ll encourage a supportive ‘light touch’ service but will pursue legal punishment of those who flout the law and eliminate the financial gain or benefit from those who are non-compliant.

There’s a high level of ‘hands on’ casework and project work but also involvement in strategy and policy development.

Your overall aim will be to provide a high quality, customer-focused service that prioritises vulnerable tenants and contributes to the overall improvement of housing conditions across the borough.

About You:

Committed, passionate and resilient, you’ll be ready for the opportunity this diverse borough presents.

A Registered or Chartered Environmental Health Professional, or holding an equivalent professional qualification, you’ll have recent experience within housing enforcement and property licensing. This should include familiarity with high-risk and complex premises, including houses in multiple occupation.

HHSRS-trained, you’ll have good surveying skills and an eye for detail. Alongside a high level of technical expertise in enforcement and legislation, you’ll need the ability to connect and empathise with residents, and fully understand their issues.

Setting priorities and managing time and resources will be a key challenge. You’re likely to have some supervisory experience and will be looking to develop your leadership skills further.

On joining the RBKC team, you not only benefit from a minimum of 28 days annual leave plus public holidays, an exceptional Pension Scheme, with an attractive employer contribution, In house fitness classes, as well as discounted Gym membership and free swimming.

You will also be joining an organisation that is focused on your career and development, regular one to ones will give you the opportunity to plan a career path, identify training and qualifications needed to get you there and support in achieving your goals.

There has never been a better time to join RBKC as we go from Strength to Strength delivering outstanding services to our residents and community.

Please apply online explaining how you meet the requirements set out in the person specification and job description. CV’s alone will not be considered for this role.

We reserve the right to close this vacancy early if we receive a high volume of suitable applicants.
