Medical Receptionist

What the role entails:

Medical receptionists provide high quality reception services to patients, their families/ carers, clinical and non clinical staff in a caring supportive manner.

They are responsible for performing administrative tasks to ensure the smooth and efficient functioning of the front desk, in order to provide an exceptional standard of care for patients and visitors. All duties are undertaken in accordance with the written policies and procedures of the practice.

 They work closely with the practice manager/ supervisors to ensure efficiency in the ongoing operation of front of house activities.

Qualifications and Experience

The following skills and competencies are essential:

  • Proven ability to work in a health care or similar business interacting with a diverse population including adolescents, children and the elderly.
  • Superior interpersonal and communication skills –
    • High level of communication skills, at all levels within the industry and the wider community
    • High level of negotiating and influencing skills, complaints management

The following are highly desirable:

  • Minimum of one year experience in a similar position
  • Experience with Best Practice management software
  • Willingness to complete an appropriate accredited medical reception/health administration course, including a basic knowledge of medical terminology if needed.
  • CPR/triage training and/or experience

  • Demonstrate commitment to ongoing professional development
  • A mature and friendly approach is required when dealing with fellow employees, supervisors and the general public
