Front Desk Receptionist
Full Job Description
Objective:
The Receptionist will assist in creating a welcoming and educational environment for students, teachers and parents. This role will be the first point of contact for all visitors to the school.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Welcome and greets visitors to the school office.
- Coordinates and assists in the scheduling of visitors and tours.
- Answers phone, arranges appointments, and screens visitors.
- Types of correspondence, reports, memos, etc., as instructed.
- Sorts and distributes mail and other deliveries.
- Checks in all late arrivals and check out early pickups.
- Ensures that all student transportation and media information is entered accurately and promptly into the computer database.
- Assist school nurse in contacting parents when students are ill.
- Assist with transportation needs when required.
- Assist in weather or emergency related needs.
- Coordinates with the administrative assistant team.
- Responds and directs all calls made to Mill Neck Manor School for the Deaf.
- Facilities custodial and maintenance requests by staff.
- Maintains complete and accurate files regarding transportation routes and maps for all bus stops.
- Maintains confidentiality of all school related matters.
- Prepare and submit all reports as requested by the Principal/Executive Director.
- Monitor and assist with attendance data entry on the student information system.
- Completes all transportation changes with dismissal or arrival of students and notifies teachers, transportation providers and others with a need to know.

Education and Experience:
- Experience working with Deaf and Hard of Hearing population
- Ability to communicate using American Sign Language or willingness to learn and show progress through formal evaluation
- Strong administrative skill profile exhibiting a high level of professionalism, attention to detail and the ability to organize work and manage time effectively
- Demonstrated experience in data entry and reports
- Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication; including the ability to effectively communicate and interface with all levels of employees as well as external customers
- Capable of handling and appropriately prioritizing requests from multiple sources, in a timely manner
- Resourceful and demonstrates a high level of independence and initiative to resolve issues and take on challenges as they arise
- Ability to identify the need and make recommendations for process improvements to increase efficiency
- Demonstrated ability to work with highly confidential material
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and the ability to learn and become proficient at using other technology tools as required.
- High school or equivalent
