PURCHASING ENGINEER

Located in Melbourne’s south east JDN MONOCRANE is a turnkey solutions provider committed to excellence and Australian based design, manufacture and installation of materials handling equipment.

As an integral part of the production team you will report directly to the Production Manager and be responsible for ensuring the supply of raw materials and components to our manufacturing divisions along with providing purchasing support to our sales and service teams nationally. You will also provide purchasing support to our subsidiary, Brown Manufacturing.

This is a key position which requires a driven individual to manage our procurement and inbound logistics processes. This includes liaising with suppliers, developing commercial relationships, managing supplier agreements and maintaining data in our ERP system. 

Key Responsibilities include:

Using our ERP system (Syspro) to:

  1. Generate purchase orders based on our MRP schedule
  2. Order job specific components on a project by project basis
  3. Monitor purchasing functions to highlight and resolve discrepancies
  4. Maintain inventory data including safety stock, EBQ, supplier information and costing

Provide purchasing support to Brown Manufacturing including:

  1. Receiving purchase orders from JDN, developing Sales orders, procuring materials, processing job paperwork, booking jobs complete and invoicing customers.
  2. Generating purchase orders to replenish raw material stocks
  3. Identifying and acting on opportunities with existing and new suppliers to achieve favourable commercial outcomes.

Other Responsibilities:

Source and evaluate suppliers according to specification compliance, price, delivery conditions and quality. 

Purchase raw materials, equipment and services at competitive prices per the project budget. 

Assist in the formulation, development and implementation of purchasing strategies. 

Liaise with mechanical and electrical engineering staff in relation to purchasing requests and keep them informed on technical details, price and availability. 

Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of the company’s production schedules and upcoming plans.

Maintain and develop commercial relationships with international suppliers of critical components with consideration of freight requirements. 

Pay careful attention to trade invoice terms and assist finance department with forecasting international expenditure to secure favourable exchange rates.

Actively assist the Production Manager in maintaining inventory levels of multi-million dollars of stock parts.

Manage the controls on receipt and acknowledgment of materials and supplies and the maintenance of purchasing records. 

Liaise with suppliers, freight companies and freight forwarders to resolve any delivery issues and ensure timeframes are met.

Provide reports to production management and senior management on progress of orders.

Generate comprehensive, dead accurate, fully traceable system based purchase orders.

Plan and develop contingencies for off-system events e.g. supplier shut down periods, shipping delays, dock industrial action.

Work closely with our stores manager and production staff to ensure on tie delivery and stockholding of key raw materials and consumables.

The successful candidate will have:

Excellent computing skills including office suite, ERP/MRP software mandatory, experience with Syspro highly regarded, particularly in the areas of inventory and pricing control.

Technical procurement experience within an industrial environment. This includes the ability to read and interpret technical drawings, and commercial contracts.

Proven history in diplomatically managing key internal and external business relationships including strong negotiation skills and experience in best practice conflict resolution.

A demonstrated commercial focus and business acumen with an exceptional attention to finer detail combined with a pragmatic approach to business operation.

Appropriate tertiary qualifications in engineering at a diploma or degree level will be highly regarded. 

Drive and commitment to continuous improvement and a high level of resolve are mandatory to succeed in this fast paced environment.

Initiative to investigate issues in depth, identify solutions and implement changes to resolve and improve outcomes.

Diligence to apply, maintain and enforce process and procedure with the accompanying documentation is a must.

Salary

50k – 60k + Super
