Head of Environment & Sustainability
Macildowie are working with a large well-known retail/ecommerce business based in Nottingham to recruit a Head of Environment & Sustainability.
We are looking for a remarkable individual who is able to lead and motivate the company to a more environmentally and socially sustainable future.
You will work on reducing emissions using science-based emission targeting, product, packaging & waste management: recycling and reducing virgin materials and campaign the shift to electrical travel.
Role & Responsibilities:
Lead the delivery of the environmental and sustainability strategy and policies by designing and implementing a full programme of initiatives
Undertake impact assessments to evaluate the implications of new legislation and identify opportunities for potential funding and develop business cases to ensure the impact of key environmental initiatives are understood
Bring together and lead internal groups on the development of key metrics against which progress on sustainability will be measured and assessed internally and externally. This will include collaboration with business leaders and internal groups
Collection and management of data and analysis, work with key stakeholders to introduce and maintain environmental management information producing accurate and relevant reports for presentation to relevant groups both internally and externally
Provide regular updates and high quality reporting to the Executive group
Proactively track and monitor environmental legislation and sector initiatives to ensure policies, procedures and operations are compliant and consistent with best practice and regularly review the risks and opportunities facing the business across all areas of ES and adapt the ES strategy as appropriate
Provide environmental advice across all sites and Advisor Network Stakeholder Management & Communication
Serve as the internal subject matter expert for sustainability initiatives, taking every opportunity to educate others, including the Advisor network on sustainability matters
Lead on Communications on environmental initiatives including regular updates, presentations and reports for the leadership group
Work with Advisors, local authorities and recycling organisations to develop energy and waste reduction programmes
Be alert to opportunities for fundraising for sustainability projects and apply for funds from grant and other providers
Network and develop relationships with relevant organisations to identify current best practice and benchmarking initiatives that may be used and applied effectively within the Group
Successfully manage internal stakeholders at all levels of the organisation
Assess the resources needed for effective ES. Provide effective line management as appropriate including coaching, development and career path guidance
Ideal Candidate:
Have at least 5 years relevant experience in a similar sized organisation – essential
Ideally possess an undergraduate or postgraduate degree in Sustainability or similar
Have a strong numerical and technical understanding or relevant sustainability topics, including the ability to quantitatively model the GHG (Greenhouse gas emissions) impact of different scenarios and business plans, and perform scenario analysis in line with the TCFD guidelines (Task Force on Climate-Related Financial Disclosures)
Be an exceptional programme lead, with the ability to take a project from inception and drive it through to a specific outcome
Possess the ability to inspire, excite and challenge by collaborating with different functions to ensure a shared journey of success
Have strong teamwork and interpersonal skills, and be able to build strong relationships with stakeholders so as to develop an effective network of advocates for the sustainability programme
Possess the ability to engage, influence and challenge at the most senior levels of the organisation
Experience of working in a fast-paced results orientated environment, ideally in retail or a consumer-facing services business
