Assistant Cake Decorator

The role of Assistant Cake Decorator is primarily to produce a high volume of basic cakes and to assist the cake decorating team in the completion of top quality cakes, ensuring completion and delivery on time and to high standards. This includes sticking to timelines, being proactive and spotting issues or challenges, working as part of a team and making sure projects are executed with great skill and high quality.

We are seeking someone who is comfortable working on cakes and wants to continue to build on their skill level. In your cover letter, please let us know how long you have been decorating cakes and the mediums that you are comfortable working with.

SKILLS REQUIREMENTS:

-You must have experience with basic cake decorating in a commercial kitchen, restaurant or bakery. Culinary school may also be acceptable experience.
-Strong time management skills
-Artistic ability with a strong understanding of stacking & filling cakes, icing cakes, and basic cake-decorating techniques.
-Proactive mindset and ability to prevent, spot, & correct errors thus maintaining a high level of quality
-Strong problem solving skills and the ability to think on your feet
-Strong time management skills, a sense of urgency, and the ability to meet deadlines in a high volume environment
-Strong attention to detail
-Strong communications skills with the ability to communicate effectively in English
-Strong organizational skills and high level of cleanliness
-Ability to work on your feet for at least 8 hours a day
-NYC Food Handlers certificate (if you do not have it, you will be required to obtain it within 90 days of your hire date)

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING:

-High volume stacking, filling, covering, and decorating all “Take Away” cakes
-High volume stacking, filling, covering, and decorating all “Cakes by the Slice”
-Assist with stacking, filling, and crumb coating custom cakes for the decorating team
-Assist the decorating team with basic sugar work
-Ensure that all cake are completed in a timely manner
-Keep work area and environment clean & organized
