Salary from £46,100 to £53,295 pa inclusive with potential to progress to £59,354 pa inclusive of London allowance. In addition, a market supplement may be considered for an exceptional candidate

The Executive Officer to the Director is a new role in the LSE’s Directorate and Support Team, created to support the Director in external engagement and fundraising work.

You will oversee the Director’s external engagement activities through researching and taking primary responsibility for drafting presentations, set-piece speeches, reports and other thought-leadership opportunities. Working with colleagues in LSE’s Communications Division you will take a strategic approach to this engagement with policy-makers, opinion formers and HE sector groups to promote the unique contribution of LSE and its Director. The post-holder will equally play a lead role in providing to the Director strategic support for the LSE 2030 Campaign. Working in close co-ordination with the senior team of LSE’s Philanthropy and Global Engagement (PAGE) division, the successful candidate will take a strategic and efficient view of opportunities and priorities, to make links between engagements and to maximise the impact with donors, alumni and strategic partners.

Candidates must have confidence in working with senior staff with awareness of ‘big picture’ issues relating to LSE, UK higher education and the wider political scene. Educated to master’s level or higher, candidates will need experience of drafting cogent and persuasive policy papers, speeches and other externally-facing material. Applicants for this post will need to demonstrate experience of conducting high-quality research with the ability to write-up findings to convey complex ideas concisely. Candidates must be articulate and literate to produce work of the highest quality; they must have the ability to delegate effectively, challenge assumptions, seek constructive outcomes and to be visible to internal and external stakeholders in order to build trust. Candidates must be able to manage their own workload and that of others by prioritising actions and making autonomous decisions. The ability to get the best out of colleagues, coupled with experience of co-ordinating activities and people to desirable outcomes outside of formal line management structures, is essential. The ability to participate in networks, and to initiate and build these over time, is also essential.
